Visceral Manipulation

Manual work on internal organs, aimed at restoring their mobility relative to neighboring structures. Five modules that build on one another — from the abdomen to the emotional component of visceral dysfunction.

Step-by-step program

VM1 Abdomen +

The course introduces functional biomechanics according to Jean-Pierre Barral's approach, teaching manual methods for locating, assessing and relieving dysfunction within the abdomen.

  • Assessment of the mobility and suspension of the abdominal organs, membranes and ligaments.
  • The relationship between the function of internal organs and postural patterns and the musculoskeletal system.
  • The principle that the functioning of somatic structures reflects the operation of the whole system.

Prerequisites: experience working with light touch/palpation. Duration: 4 days.

VM2 Abdomen 2 +

An extension of the VM1 topics — deeper structural anatomy of the abdomen and its connections with the cranial cavity and thorax.

  • Work on the kidneys, pancreas, spleen, greater omentum, peritoneum and their connective tissue and ligaments.
  • Concepts of planes limiting mobility, as well as issues of organ mobility and motility.
  • Gradual introduction of limb-work techniques to mobilize other structures and organs.
  • Hands-on practice under experienced instructors — locating and examining each organ along with contraindications.

Prerequisites: VM1. Duration: 4 days.

VM3 Pelvis +

A course dedicated to the relationship between the function and structure of the pelvis.

  • Methods for diagnosing and treating the organs of the pelvic cavity, along with understanding the network of their connections and suspensions.
  • Recognizing somatic and lumbar pain whose source lies in internal organs.
  • The "line of tension" principle as a method for integrating the pelvis with the rest of the body.

Prerequisites: VM2. Duration: 4 days.

VM4 Thorax +

Following work on the abdomen and pelvis — thoracic biomechanics, its bony structure and soft tissues.

  • Examination of the pharyngeal fascia and thoracic cavity, assessment of neck and shoulder girdle biomechanics.
  • Anatomy and function of the mediastinal organs: pleura, lungs, pericardium, heart, thyroid, trachea, esophagus and sternum.
  • Listening techniques and practical integration of thoracic organs within the complex fascial system.
  • Recognizing the sources of thoracic and spinal complaints — somatic vs. visceral pain.

Prerequisites: VM1, VM2, VM3. Duration: 4 days.

VM5 Manual Thermal Evaluation and VisceroEmotional Relationships +

At the end of 2024, VM5 moved to a new, expanded format incorporating the content of the former VM6 level. The module combines two elements: Manual Thermodiagnosis and Visceral Emotional Listening.

  • Manual Thermodiagnosis — an assessment method using the hand's sensitivity to tissue temperature changes to locate physical and emotional dysfunctions, complementing other forms of diagnosis.
  • Visceral Emotional Listening — work on recognizing how undischarged emotions are stored in organs and affect visceral dysfunction, integrating the physical and emotional components of patient assessment.
  • A return to VM1–VM4 techniques, enriched with new assessment tools based on "tissue listening".

Prerequisites: VM1–VM4.
